    This article is mis’titled.

I don’t support Planned Parenthood’s abortion stance. I don’t support the administration’s focus on and funding of PP more than any other prolife, anti-abortion person does. But as Clinton also said in her speech: “For those who care so deeply about reducing the abortion rate, the best way to make sure we reduce abortion is to provide access to safe family planning. ” This includes pre and post-natal healthcare, it includes education, and it includes birth control. These things are included in the administration’s goals. Abortion is not “key” to the Administration’s foreign policy.

On the contrary DJ, the title is accurate. Right after Mrs. Clinton indicates that “reproductive rights and the umbrella issue of women’s rights and empowerment will be a key to the foreign policy of this Administration,” she expresses her pride for President Obama’s repeal of the Mexico City policy. She then says, “As a result, nongovernmental organizations overseas can once again use U.S. funding to provide the full range of family planning services.” Mexico City denied funding for abortion providers. Thus, “the full range of family planning services” refers to what was already being funded PLUS ABORTION.

So, now to this line: “For those who care so deeply about reducing the abortion rate, the best way to make sure we reduce abortion is to provide access to safe family planning.” First, note that this is by no means a concession. She simply says that the best way to achieve X is Y; that’s it. Second, if she’s promoting anything at all, then she’s promoting abortion. Remember that “the full range of family planning services” that this administration seeks to provide INCLUDES ABORTION. So “the best way to make sure we reduce abortion” is to provide abortion!

Is this supposed to be common ground? On the contrary, the administration promotes abortion on the one hand and engages in equivocation on the other. Those who support the protection of innocent human lives from willful destruction and oppose government sanction and funding of the killing of unborn children should guard themselves against such abuses of language and see this administration’s policies for what they truly are.
